May in India is already brutal, but honestly, the IPL auction this year felt even hotter. The 19th edition kicked off on March 28, and if you’ve been following the numbers, you probably had the same reaction as me. It’s just insane how much money teams are throwing around.
We usually get caught up in those massive sixes flying into the stands. Fair enough, they’re fun. But this season, the real story quietly shifted somewhere else. The bowlers. Because at some point, teams figured out that while big hits get the crowd going, it’s the guys with the ball who actually close games and win trophies.
That’s always been the thing with the IPL though. One good auction, one good season, and a player’s life can completely change. Unknown players suddenly become overnight stars, and veterans remind everyone they’re not done yet.
Now that the 2026 season is underway, a few names are standing out for one simple reason. Money. Big money. These are the guys franchises went all in for. So yeah, if you’ve been wondering who the most expensive bowlers in IPL 2026 are, here’s a closer look.
Matheesha Pathirana and that 18-crore leap
Let’s start at the top. Matheesha Pathirana. Still just 23, which is kind of crazy when you think about it. It doesn’t even feel that long ago when he made his CSK debut and picked up a wicket with his very first ball. That slingy action, that awkward release, batters looked uncomfortable right away.
Fast forward to now, and he’s no longer that raw kid. KKR clearly saw something big because they went all out and paid INR 18 crore for him. That’s not a small statement.

And to be fair, the numbers back it up. 57 wickets in just 32 matches. That’s not normal. Especially for someone still this early in his career. When he comes in at the death and nails those yorkers, you can almost feel the panic from the other end. Not something you’d want to face, honestly.
There’s pressure, obviously. You don’t carry the highest price tag without expectations. But if anyone looks ready for it, it’s him.
Prashant Veer and the fast-track rise
This one is just a great story. Prashant Veer didn’t really take the usual slow route. He kind of skipped a few steps and went straight into the spotlight. A 20-year-old spinner getting this level of attention says a lot.
I still remember watching his early domestic games. You could tell he had something different. The way he controlled his length, the way he got turn even on flatter surfaces, it stood out.
CSK didn’t hesitate. They picked him up for INR 14.20 crore, which still feels wild when you say it out loud. A 20-year-old, second most expensive bowler. Only in the IPL.
But then again, CSK has this habit of trusting spinners and turning them into match-winners. If Veer settles in, Chepauk could suit him perfectly for years.
Kartik Sharma making noise early
And then there’s Kartik Sharma. Another young name, but a very different journey. He only started getting attention recently, around late 2025, and suddenly everything clicked for him.
Strong performances in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments, and just like that, teams started paying attention. His rise was quick. Almost too quick.
CSK, again, didn’t hold back. Another INR 14.20 crore. Same as Veer. Which honestly tells you they had a clear plan going into the auction.
Facing both Veer and Kartik in the same lineup is not going to be fun for batters. One brings spin control, the other brings pressure handling. And both are still so early in their careers.
It also says something bigger about where the IPL is heading. It’s not just about overseas stars anymore. Teams are clearly investing in young Indian bowlers who understand the conditions better than anyone.
Mustafizur Rahman and the uncertainty around him
Then comes Mustafizur Rahman. The Fizz. He’s been around for years now, and somehow, batters still struggle to read him. Those cutters, that variation, it just works.
Delhi Capitals went in and picked him up for INR 9.20 crore. Solid investment for someone with his experience.
But here’s where it gets a bit tricky. There’s talk that he might not even feature this season. Nothing confirmed, but enough to make fans a little uneasy.
If that happens, it’s going to hurt DC. You don’t spend that kind of money and then miss out on the player completely. Especially someone who already has 65 IPL wickets and keeps things tight with his economy.
Still, his price shows one thing clearly. Left-arm pace with variations is always going to be valuable in this league.
At the end of the day, these price tags look great on paper. But once the match starts, none of that matters. It’s just you, the ball, and a packed stadium waiting to see what you do next.
Some of these guys will live up to the hype. Some might struggle a bit. That’s just how it goes.
Either way, this season is going to be interesting to watch. Let’s see who actually delivers when it counts.
